I am still learning the difference between turning the page and fleeing the chapter. Fleeing would require me to dismiss the work, resent the clients indiscriminately and pretend that none of the applause or achievement meant anything because it did not mean everything. Refusing to turn would keep me circling the same venues, giving more energy to performances that no longer justify the journey and blaming the audience for accepting the show I continue to advertise. Turning the page allows gratitude and anger to remain in the same book. It permits the earlier chapter to matter without granting it permanent control of the plot.
