Around OZ The First Time

The pub is adorned with caps and the walls and ceilings have lots of messages from past lodgers. I see one from a “Peter” and photograph it for sending to him.

For a place which has so much history, it’s not easy to find. The Daly Waters Pub is a long way off the highway and adjacent to one of the many old, World War II airstrips in the area.

A couple of hours there and the fingers have become suitably pruny. Silver Leader got locked in a conversation with other travellers and get the low down on some “special” spots we should look forward to (and some we should avoid).

He speaks of the monotony of the bush reminding him of a similar feeling looking over the crops of his home. Funny how something completely different can remind you of home.

Can they make their minds up, should you swim or not.

The croc on the other bank slips into the water and disappears whilst heading towards the causeway on the other side of the river.

I actually can’t wait to come back on our own and do it again. There was so much we didn’t see

I muse to Silver Leader is that all we need to do is get a boat and motor along the banks with lures behind. He simply agrees.

Wandering, always wandering we find ourselves at the head of the harbour where in World War II gun emplacements were built to protect the port.

As we drift back to the boat ramp we are set upon by the local constabulary. They are eager to know when Peter is taking his mother ship out for location for the overnight tours

At the end of the day we could have lunched all day in such a spot, but there are places to go people to see
